Tribute to Issey Miyake

The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode pays tribute to Issey Miyake who passed away on Friday, August 5 at the age of 84.

Born on April 22, 1938 in Hiroshima, Issey Miyake graduated from the Tama University of Fine Arts in Tokyo before moving to Paris in 1965. He then joined the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture in Paris. In 1966, he worked as an apprentice to Guy Laroche and two years later with Hubert de Givenchy. Issey Miyake founded the Miyake Design Studio in 1970, and for the next 50 years, his creativity and expertise shone through.

He was the first foreign designer to show at Paris Fashion Week® in April 1974, and later became a member of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, where he was a member of the Board of Directors.
