A Feel For Fashion: Marie-Amélie Sauvé

Interviews

Some people immediately associate Marie-Amelie Sauvé with her magazine, Mastermind, which has just celebrated its 10th anniversary and 20th issue. Other people might associate her with Nicolas Ghesquière, as their collaborations date back some 30 years, back when they met while she was at Vogue France and he was a budding designer. Early photos of her years as hit fit model at Balenciaga followed by myriad editorial shoots and campaigns that attest to her ascent as one of the industry’s leading stylists appear in her book, The World To Come, Visions of an Image Maker. Today, the peerless, Paris-based creative will support Ghesquière as he presents his latest collection for Louis Vuitton. Tomorrow, as Paris Fashion Week draws to a close, Sauvé marks the book’s official release.

Where do you look for new ideas or voices in fashion?

I look for new ideas everywhere I can. Being curious and looking at every source of information.

AI will continue to impact how we live and work. What excites you and what concerns you?

AI could be a great help if it is manipulated by people with knowledge and culture.

How do you think fashion can spark and sustain desire with so much else going on in the world?

I think fashion will always spark desire because it speaks deeply to our desire to seduce ourselves and others.

Do trends still matter?

Trends don’t matter. Personal and original ideas win.

What is one positive objective or goal that you would like to see the industry work towards?

I would love the industry to work towards a solution to become more sustainable.
