LAZOSCHMIDL - WORKOUT AND TWIST

Interviews

From the printed T-shirt “Living Sculpture” to the fanzine Unpublished Material,” Lazoschmidl has been blending fashion, design and writing since 2014 – the year the German-Swedish duo Andreas Schmidl and Josef Lazo founded their label. Winner of the 2016 Innovation Award from the Swedish Fashion Council, the brand’s universe is unapologetically sexy and challenges societal norms.
Lazoschmidl has been part of the Paris Fashion Week® Menswear Official Calendar since June 2019 and will welcome press and buyers at the SPHERE PFW® Showroom at the Palais de Tokyo from January 21st to 25th as part of an initiative supported by DEFI, L’Oréal Paris and Accor.

What has inspired this collection?

The collection is a continuation of our observation of male self-identification and performance. Thus, we explored the idea of ‘workout’ and the physical sensation of running rather than a visual reference: the warmth of the body after movement, sweat on skin, and the quiet satisfaction that follows exertion. It’s about how these moments influence the way we dress, mixing athletic exposure with tailored, everyday garments.

Tell us about the shapes, colours, details?

The shapes are relaxed but controlled, sitting close to the body without being restrictive. Colours are chosen as subtle provocations: baby pinks, browns, and distorted animal patterns that feel slightly off. Details come from material contrasts: technical taffeta next to wool; ribbed singlets layered under structured pieces; and familiar workwear elements placed in unexpected contexts.

What has changed for you in 2025?

There is more confidence in editing. The work feels calmer and more intentional, focusing on decisions rather than statements. The playfulness is still there, but it’s expressed with more restraint and precision.

Who are your mentors or personalities you admire most in fashion and beyond?

We admire designers and creatives who build worlds quietly and consistently – Jil Sander, Helmut Lang. People who trust instinct over spectacle. Beyond fashion, our ever-lasting heroes are Gilbert & George.

Your favourite book? Cult film or series?

As a cult film reference, American Psycho — not for its surface, but for its obsessive rituals, control and the tension between appearance and inner life.

Your absolute favourite spot in Paris?

The exterior of Centre Pompidou.

Your dreams?

To keep developing the brand as a safe space.

Your goal?

To build a body of work that continues to feel relevant over time, where clothing becomes part of identity rather than a seasonal statement.
