LOEWE SHOW-ON-THE-WALL

The LOEWE SS21 Show-on-the-Wall will feature a series of online content to expand and enrich the personal experience of putting together and enjoying a paper show.

The events will be aired throughout the day on the LOEWE social media channels. The idea is to offer deeper knowledge about the collection, the show concept and the artists involved, as well as entertainment, creating an experience that further enhances the identity of LOEWE as a cultural brand. The content will follow a fixed agenda, with additional elements being added throughout the day.
This LOEWE experience will start with Adam Bainbridge, aka KINDNESS, introducing Thomas Tallis’ Spem in Alium. The British Asian music producer, radio host and educator based in London was commissioned to direct an interpretation of Thomas Tallis’ Spem in Alium, the complex motet for forty voices which is intended as a soundtrack to the Show-onthe-Wall. An existing recording from The Tallis Scholars, the award-winning, leading ensemble in Renaissance polyphony, has been mixed with contributions from KINDNESS, American composer and vocalist Hanna Benn, French Malagasy pianist and composer Mathis Picard, Swedish songwriter DJ and performer Robyn and jazz vocalist Vuyo Sotashe. A layered piece of ancient music gains further sonic layers, turning into an aural translation of LOEWE’s prismatic identity. Jonathan Anderson, LOEWE’s creative director, will then explain the concept for the Show-on-the-Wall, unveiling the posters and describing the looks.
LOEWE will present a documentary directed by Artist and Director Ayo Akingbade on Anthea Hamilton, the British artist who created the wallpaper Sr Jeanne Wavy Boots w. Gazanias and Snails, 2020 for the Show-on-the-Wall. One of four shortlisted for the 2016 Turner Prize, Anthea Hamilton is known for creating visually playful and surreal artworks and large-scale installations. On camera, art historian and commentator Dr James Fox, famous for presenting art history documentaries on the BBC, discusses life and art with Anthea Hamilton. The movie was filmed in Hamilton’s studio in Stockwell, London, at Open School East, Margate where she is the artist in residence and at Thomas Dane Gallery in London who represent Hamilton. The film will go live on loewe.com and on YouTube.
Hilary Lloyd filmed Airing of Du Samedi au Mardi in London and from a distance in Paris with three camera operators and several cameras while directing over video link from London. Altogether there were 13 models, 4 camera operators and 2 cities, Paris and London. Lloyd’s method consists in editing a lot of footage with a definite rhythm to create a mashed narrative. In this case her aim was conveying what filmmaking across three days really felt like: the excitement of making something all together, of being free and creative; love and pleasure and exuberance. The film will premiere on YouTube.
The day will end by a talk between creative director Jonathan Anderson with model and friend of the house Kaia Gerber on LOEWE’s Show-on-the-Wall concept.
